The study looked at the feasibility of searching online pre-appraised sources during consultations, using a number of information sources (Dutch GP Guidelines, BMJ CE, Trip and the BMJ) in hierachical order.

BMJ Clinical Evidence was found to be very useful for new and updated information and was one of the two most consulted databases.

The study also concluded that in

  1. 85% of searches took less than ten minute
  2. 87% of searches provided an answer from one of the sources
  3. 47% of searches found new information for the physician
  4. 26% of medical decisions were changed as a result of the search
